Do I really need an exhaust fan in my bathroom?

Many older homes today still don't have exhaust fans in the bathroom. Do we need an exhaust fan? Can we get away with just opening a window when we need to let out some steam or clear the air?

The answer is YES you do need one and here are the reasons why:

  • It controls humidity. Condensation builds up fast during a shower and even a hot steamy bubble bath. An exhaust fan sucks in the moisture and prevents mold build up in corners and crevices of your bathroom.
  • Cleans the air. This is a kind favor meant to help the noses of anyone who goes in or near the restroom after well…you know.
  • Preserves paint and wallpaper. Moisture build-up can cause peeling of paint and wallpaper and can cause mildew that will ruin the design. An exhaust fan will help preserve the life of your walls.
  •  Prevents mold and mildew. Mold and mildew can make you sick, and a steamy bathroom is a perfect place for it to take hold. An exhaust fan helps remove a large amount of moisture that would otherwise settle to create mildew and mold.
  • Provides ventilation. Whether you are putting on makeup, blow drying your hair or using hairsprays and perfume, or even scrubbing the shower; the exhaust fans sucks it all out to keep it cool and rid the air of chemicals.

Adding an exhaust fan to your bathroom makes a world of difference. It is important to have one installed by a trained and licensed electrician like John's Electric.
