Electrical Panel Upgrades

Has an insurance adjuster told you they wouldn't write you an insurance policy because of your electrical panel?

Would you like to add a piece of machinery in your garage for your favorite hobby, whether woodworking or working on cars, but your current electrical panel is all filled up?

Today's high-tech homes require more power than ever. Why struggle with poor low-amp electrical service? If your home is limited to 60-amp power, maybe now is the time for a service upgrade to a 100-amp or 200-amp main electrical panel.

Many homes and businesses need their electrical panels upgraded. Older panels are easily overloaded with the increased use of electronics in the home and workplace.

You may need an electrical panel upgrade if:

  • Your circuit breaker trips frequently.
  • Your circuit breaker doesn't reset after it trips.
  • Your home has fuses instead of circuit breakers.
  • You've noticed signs of small electrical fires.
  • Your electrical wiring is old or damaged.
  • Your home is 20 years old and has never had a panel upgrade.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: Several electrical panel brands are known to cause problems. If you have any of these brands, call us for a replacement immediately – Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Pushmatic, or Sylvania.

Whether you have an old, unsafe panel or a small panel, you may need to have a new panel upgrade done by John's Electric.

Some signs you may need a panel upgrade are flickering lights and breakers that trip constantly.

So what is an electrical panel? Think of your electrical panel as the heart of your electrical system. If your panel (heart) were to stop working, you would have a big problem.

All the power that comes into your home originates from the utility department first, then your electric service. From there, it goes to your electric panel (heart). From there, electricity is distributed in wires to different locations providing you with power where you need it most.

You may not have a panel with circuit breakers; you may have an outdated fuse box or, even worse, an electrical panel that has lost its UL approval because they have been proven to cause fires.

A couple of manufacturers went out of business because they were forced to close by UL because they made inferior products. Unfortunately, many of these panels and breakers are in thousands of homes.

Circuit breakers are designed to shut off quickly if a problem arises. (A fraction of a second) This protects your family from electrocution, electric shock, and house fires. With the old-style breakers, some will not trip under a test load for at least one minute; some did not trip (turn off) at all.

Problems arise from electrical panels for many reasons. We will list just a few below:

  1. Loose connections
  2. Burnt connections
  3. Double tapped circuits
  4. Old Outdated Fuses
  5. Not UL approved
